Self-awareness is the start: How to identify what’s holding you back

Most of us move through life on autopilot, not realizing that many of our beliefs aren't even ours -they've been handed to us by society, culture, family, and generations before us. From the moment we're born, we absorb everything around us like sponges. Think about your name - how often were you called that name before you realized, "Oh, this is me?" Our entire identity forms through repetition and social conditioning.


We inherit beliefs from our families, schools, communities, and cultures - often without questioning whether they serve us. These subconscious beliefs quietly run the show, shaping our reality without awareness.


Biologist Bruce Lipton explains this beautifully through the science of epigenetics: our genes are not our destiny. It's the environment around us - and within us - that determines how genes are expressed. That means our beliefs, emotions, habits, and choices can activate or suppress genetic expression.


This is why removing yourself from a limiting environment can create profound change. When I left my village and moved to London at 20, I didn’t know the science, but I felt the shift. Surrounded by inspiring people and exposed to new ideas, I saw new possibilities. My entire nervous system began to open to a different reality. I began to thrive.


But awareness alone isn't enough. You can’t just think your way into a new identity—you have to embody it.


I followed my intuition and found myself drawn to yoga. It began as a physical practice—a way to feel better in my body. But over time, yoga became my gateway to deeper healing. Fixing the physical and connecting my breath to movement allowed me to slow my mind. It wasn't about perfecting poses; it was about becoming aware of myself, my emotions, and my internal patterns. I remember waking up one morning, exhausted, wondering why I had agreed to teach so early. But on the mat, as I guided others to set intentions and be open to the possibility of miracles, something clicked. I left that session feeling magical. Like I could receive. Like, I was ready to do this every day.

Yoga became the first tool to show me what it felt like to live from intention. To choose how I want to feel.


Then came the mindset work. With awareness came responsibility. I started noticing my beliefs. I questioned what was mine and what was inherited. Through journaling, affirmations, and daily rituals, I learned how to reframe my thinking and choose new beliefs. The Mindset Course I now offer was built from that very foundation.


But even mindset work has limits.


According to Dr. Joe Dispenza, we operate with only about 5% conscious awareness. That means most of our decisions, reactions, and habits come from the subconscious - what's been patterned into the body over years. Ever driven to your old house by mistake?
